Privacy Policy
Last Updated: 19/09/2026
1. Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when users use the Download It Android application and related download service.
2. Information We Process
Download It does not require an account and does not intentionally collect device identifiers or behavioral analytics, but it processes URLs and media submitted for download.
Users may submit URLs for supported social-media content. The service processes submitted URLs in order to retrieve and prepare requested media.
The submitted URLs may include information already contained in the URL itself, such as a public post/reel identifier or username depending on the URL.
3. Information the Android App Accesses
The Android application can receive URLs through:
- User input
- Android sharing
- Clipboard/paste functionality where explicitly initiated by the user
The application also uses device storage/media functionality required to save downloaded media.
4. Information Sent to Our Backend
The application sends the submitted media URL to the backend through POST /asset/download. The subsequent media retrieval request (GET /asset/{asset_id}) does not contain the original URL as a payload.
5. Information Stored on the User's Device
The Android application stores information locally, including download records, asset ID, source URL, caption, thumbnail URI, and the downloaded media.
Downloaded media is saved to the Android MediaStore, specifically in the Movies/Download it or Pictures/Download it directories. The user controls deletion of the downloaded media from their device.
6. Temporary Files on the Device
Temporary download and extraction files are used during processing. Raw files may temporarily exist under the application's files directory, and extracted contents may temporarily exist under its cache directory. These temporary files and directories are deleted after processing.
7. Server-Side Storage and Retention
The backend uses local temporary file storage rather than a database. Downloaded media and associated metadata are stored under the backend asset storage.
The current retention behavior is approximately 5 minutes for assembled assets and metadata. Temporary working files under the temporary directory are also retained for approximately 5 minutes. A background cleanup process removes temporary server-side download data according to this retention process.
8. Metadata
Media processing may involve metadata such as caption, title, author, duration, and upload date. The backend may temporarily store this information as part of the downloaded asset's processing metadata.
9. Logging
The Android application uses local Logcat for operational and debugging information.
The backend uses structured operational logs containing information such as timestamp, log level, request ID, request method, request path, status, duration, provider, error code, and sanitized/original error information as implemented.
10. Device Identifiers and Sensitive Device Information
The application does not collect device model, Android version, MAC address, Android ID, Advertising ID, locale, timezone, location, contacts, or phone-state information.
11. Accounts and Authentication
Download It does not currently require a user account for normal download functionality. The application does not implement Download It accounts, Instagram login, Instagram password collection, Instagram OAuth, Instagram authentication tokens, or session-cookie handling.
12. Third-Party Providers
Download It may use third-party provider infrastructure to retrieve requested media. The backend currently uses provider mechanisms to retrieve supported Instagram content.
A submitted URL may be transmitted to the relevant provider as necessary to retrieve the requested content. We encourage users to review the privacy policies of the relevant external platforms for their own data practices.
13. Data Sharing
Information is transmitted to the Download It backend to process the request, and the backend may pass the requested URL to the relevant third-party content provider. Infrastructure and service providers may process technical information as necessary to operate the service, where applicable. Download It does not operate a data-broker business based on the audited architecture.
14. Advertising and Analytics
The Android application does not initialize or depend on Firebase, Google Analytics, Google Mobile Ads, or Crashlytics. There is no product analytics or behavioral telemetry in the Android application.
15. Security
Communications between the application/website and production API use HTTPS. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information processed by the service.
16. Children's Privacy
Download It is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has provided personal information to the service, we will take reasonable steps to delete such information. Users between 13 and 17 should use the service in accordance with applicable laws and, where appropriate, with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
17. Data Deletion
Server data
Temporary backend assets and metadata are automatically removed according to the retention process.
Android device data
Downloaded media and local download history remain on the user's device until removed by the user or by normal Android/application behavior.
